Safeguarding at Christ the King

At Christ the King RC Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The school will ensure that children learn in a safe, caring and enriching environment. Children are taught how to keep themselves safe and to develop positive and healthy relationships.

Every member of staff receives annual training on Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and procedures and additional training on aspects such as online safety, PREVENT (the Governments approach to stopping radicalisation) and other current issues.

Every staff member is aware of the system within Christ the King Primary School which supports safeguarding – these are explained as part of staff induction and are reinforced at regular intervals.  This includes our Child Protection Policy, staff code of conduct, and the role of the D.S.L (Designated Safeguarding Lead).

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed here.

The school has a statutory responsibility to share concerns it might have about a child in need of protection with other agencies and in particular police, health and children’s services.

Schools are not able to investigate child protection concerns but have a legal duty to refer them. In most instances the school will be able to inform the parents/carer of its need to make a referral. However, sometimes the school is advised by children’s services or police that the parent/carer cannot be informed whilst they investigate the matter. We understand the anxiety parents/carers understandably feel when they are not told about any concerns from the outset. The school follows legislation that aims to act in the interests of the child.

The school will always seek to work in partnership with parents and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for the child and family.

The Designated Safeguarding lead person for Christ the King RC Primary School is Mrs S Webster (Headteacher).

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding leads for Christ the King RC Primary School are Mrs A Kelly ( SENDco) and Mr Broderick ( Year 6 teacher and Deputy Headteacher) Gillian Fielding (SLT)
