YEAR 1 HOME LEARNING CHALLENGES
LEARNING LETTERS
Please find links below to all our learning letters for the academic year 2024-2025. These contain important information on topics we are covering in class and PE days. They also include details on learning challenges for your child to complete at home.
KIRF'S (KEY INSTANT RECALL FACTS)
KIRF’s are designed to support the development of the mental skills that underpin much of the maths work we complete in school. They are particularly useful when calculating, be it adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing.

THINGS TO REMEMBER..
Reading Books
Reading books can be changed daily, but only if an adult has signed to say that their child has read and has finished their reading book.
Children are handing in their books in the morning to Mrs Canty or Mrs Sudall.
We will do our very best to change all books every day, but there may be occasions where this is not possible.
Spelling Folders
Spelling folders will be sent home at the start of every term. The folders include a list of all spellings and the week they will be tested, tips and ideas to help your child learn their spellings and practice sheets for each set of spellings. If folders are returned to school on a Friday, we can write the score your child got in the test each week. The list of spellings for each week is inside the folder and should be practiced through the week at home, ready for the test.
Snack time
Snack time takes place at morning playtime. The snack consists of a vegetable or a piece of fruit. If your child does not like the snack provided by school, a piece of fruit or vegetable snack can be sent in from home. If your child receives school milk, this will also be consumed at snack time. If your child does not receive school milk, they can have a drink from their water bottle.
Water bottles
Children are allowed access to water bottles throughout the day at school. CTK have provided the children with bottles that will be kept at school and washed and refilled daily.
Handwriting
In Year 1 we are improving our presentation by learning to write smaller, neater letters that are correctly formed. We are not yet learning to join.
P.E.
P.E. days are Wednesday and Thursday. Children should have their full PE kits in school at all times.
